Bogus advertisers

Since I learned to visit the public library where I lived in the South Bay Area of Los Angeles, I made it a habit to browse over the craigslist.com, one of the best sources of jobs that one needs to have as a reliable website. But my belief and trust in this website, which they said was better than the jobs advertised with newspapers, was broken. I began to suspect that the jobs advetsied in this website may have been made up or fabricated to make it appear that thousands of vacancies were still available despite the economic recession, which persisted till the late months of 2011. In fact, President Obama already decided to release another billions of stimulus to spike consumer spending. But this had infuriated the Republicans, which according to them, would aggravate the the present economic situation. Obama would pursue his administration's plan of imposing more taxes to those earning between 250,000 and millions annually, to raise more revenues for the government. Otherwise...

UN to probe on Libyan gov't abuses vs civilians

Image
The United Nations is considering a move to investigate human rights violations committed by the Libyan government. Libya is in chaos and most of its people have continued to rise up against the waning leadership of Col. Muamar Ghaddafi, whose control of government has been topsy-turvy. Media reports said many of his remaining supporters have used brazen force against thousands of peaceful protesters who have not given up hope that pretty soon the Libyan leader will finally step down from power and hand it over to the one who is picked by the majority of the Libyan people. As of this writing, hundreds were killed, while thousands are left stranded at the borders of Tunisia and Egypt. Sadly, many overseas foreign workers were held hostage by a group of armed men, whose motive is not yet known until now. At least 34 Filipino workers are being kept in an undisclosed place inside Libya. Navi Pillay, commissioner for United Nations Commission for Human Rights (UNCHR), said in a broadcast...

Libyan crisis affects oil prices

Image
As the Libyan crisis escalates, the price of Brent crude oil shot up to about $105 per barrel. And energy analysts said this could rise to unprecedented levels if the unrest in Libya is not resolved in due time. As of yesterday, news broadcasts had shown Libyan leader Col. Muamar Qaddafi seemed unrelenting on his threat not to step down as his thousands of supporters rallied behind to keep him in power. He said it would be better for him to die than give up his power to his opponents. As this developed, European leaders are in the process of coming out with a possible solution to stop the mass demonstrations which already resulted in the deaths of more than 300 protesters. Some of the EU leaders had even threatened to impose an embargo against Libya, if only to force the Libyan leader to step down for a peaceful transition to a new leadership as wished by the people. With almost all the workers in limbo, with most of them participating in the mass protests, oil production had ...

Trump's ire on China nixed

Image
American property developer Donald Trump has accused China of "ripping off the United States." His negative comment came at a time when China's President Hu Jintao visited Washington D.C. as an official guest of President Obama recently. His negative comment was considered timely. Or was it meant to drum up his political plans where Trump was reported to be planning to join the presidential race comes 2012? The issue that Trump was trying to play up was immediately snatched by the media considering his popularity in the international and domestic business communities. But many people, particularly the pundits, are asking as to his intention of poking his ire against China. And who wouldn't? China's trade surplus with United States is now estimated to have totaled $236 billion. Until now, the Obama administration is left with no choice but to use its diplomatic and economic initiatives to convince China to devalue its currency to no avail. In the CNN news poll, 61 ...

Obama asked to wield pen on immigration reform

Many Fil-Am organizations in Southern California have expressed dismay over the recent failure of Congress to pass the Dream Act, whose primary intention was to legalize the stay of children brought into the United States by their undocumented parents. Leading the protest are the Alliance-Philippines and the National Alliance of Fililipino Concerns (NAFCON), which believed the negative impacts it will have on the more than 800,000 children whose only wish is to live a good life and a bright future in America. But their ambitions were quashed when Congress failed to give the proposed law a nod. With majority GOP members taking over the Lower House next year, there is a big doubt that any political agenda, especially pertaining to immigration reform that the Obama Administration keeps on pushing, will be killed. But President Obama can still wield his executive power by issuing an Executive Order that will legalize the stay of the undocumented Latinos and other foreigners across the Un...

Breast cancer cure a remote possibility?

It is so frustrating to read that a lot of people, especially women, are dying from terminal sickness like breast cancer. The case of the late Elizabeth Edwards had made a reawakening of how those millions of affected victims were reduced to expect miracles to heal them. For many decades, medical scientists had made serious efforts to discover a lasting cure for this malady. I'm not saying that nothing was done to cure this disease. Like the HIV, breast cancer is one of the killer diseases that hounds millions of women worldwide. It is public knowledge that medical scientists from advanced countries like the United States, Britain, Germany and so forth and so on have made attempts or are undertaking researches on how to cure breast cancer. But it seems nothing much was done to solve this problem. Despite the billions of dollars poured in to make the breast cancer research project successful, more work need to be done. Lately, I was wondering if the medical scientists are really...
